CITIZENS UPDATED ON MEASURES TO COMBAT ILLICIT BREW

On Tuesday, 4 August 2026, residents of Nyarugenge District convened for the bi-monthly Community Assembly meetings. During these meetings, various messages were delivered, including discussions on measures to eliminate illicit brew, strategies for supporting and guiding young people, mobilizing residents to enroll in community-based health insurance (CBHI), promoting hygiene and sanitation, addressing citizens' concerns, and other community development matters.

The Executive Administrator of Nyarugenge District, together with the partner Direct Aid, joined residents of Kigali Sector in Nyabugogo Cell as part of efforts to engage with the community and listen to their concerns.

During the meeting, the Executive Administrator of Nyarugenge District, Ingangare Alexis, urged residents to play an active role in maintaining hygiene and sanitation in their neighbourhoods and wherever they go. He also called on them to actively support efforts to eliminate illicit brew, noting that these products have been found to pose serious health risks to many people. He further encouraged residents to continue enrolling in community-based health insurance and to actively participate in other government programs aimed at improving their livelihoods.

At the same Community Assembly, the Country Director of Direct Aid Rwanda, Magdi Khattab Ibrahim, presented a cheque worth RWF 11,700,000 to the Executive Administrator of Nyarugenge District to support low-income households in accessing community-based health insurance.
