LAUNCH OF THE 2027A AGRICULTURAL SEASON

Today, 7 October 2026, the 2027A Agricultural Season was officially launched at Rugarama Site, Rugarama Cell, Nyamirambo Sector, in Nyarugenge District. The launch involved planting maize on an area of 8 hectares, with the aim of encouraging farmers to adopt modern and timely farming practices to increase crop productivity.

Rugarama Site is one of the FOBASI (Food Basket Sites) in Nyarugenge District and is primarily cultivated by various farmers’ groups.

Overall, seven FOBASI sites will be cultivated, covering a total area of 112 hectares across Nyamirambo, Kanyinya, Kigali, and Mageragere Sectors.

Under the Land Consolidation Programme, the following crops will be cultivated:

  • Maize: 50 hectares under land consolidation.
  • Beans: 206 hectares under land consolidation.
  • Vegetables: 124 hectares of consolidated wetland land.
  • Rice: 8 hectares of consolidated wetland land.

Farmers are encouraged to make greater use of agricultural inputs, including organic and inorganic fertilizers as well as improved seeds, particularly through the Government’s NKUNGANIRE programme.

Farmers are also encouraged to register with the SMART NKUNGANIRE SYSTEM (SNS) to access subsidized seeds and fertilizers.
