NYARUGENGE CELEBRATES THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RURAL WOMEN
As part of the celebrations marking the International Day of Rural Women, held on 15 October 2026, women in Mageragere Sector were provided with energy-efficient cookstoves designed to promote environmentally friendly cooking practices.
The event was attended by Nyarugenge District Executive Administrator, Ingangare Alexis, Members of Parliament, security organs, and members of the National Women’s Council (CNF). It provided an opportunity to showcase the development achievements made by women, support those with limited resources, and recognize outstanding women for their contributions.
The celebrations were held under the theme: “The Role of Rural Women in Decision-Making Bodies: A Foundation for Sustainable Change.”
In his remarks, Mr Ingangare Alexis, reminded women of their value and urged them to recognize the role played by the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, in promoting women’s development and rights. He emphasized that women are valuable members of society who should recognize their contribution to the development of their families and the country at large.
He further encouraged them to appreciate the President’s efforts in supporting women and advancing their rights, while making greater use of the available opportunities to improve their livelihoods and participate in decision-making bodies.
During the event, women from Mageragere Sector showcased some of their achievements, demonstrating their contribution to their own development and the well-being of their families.
This year’s theme highlights that rural women’s roles should extend beyond household responsibilities to include active participation in decision-making bodies and the planning of development initiatives.
Having a voice in leadership enables women to express their views, highlight the challenges they face, and propose solutions that can improve the living conditions of their families and the wider community.
In this regard, empowering women through capacity-building initiatives, supporting their development activities, and providing them with opportunities to participate in decision-making bodies are important steps towards building a society that promotes equal opportunities and sustainable development.
